The Gospel of John has been read and cherished throughout the centuries more than any of the other Gospels. Portions are read by beginning Greek students becuse it is one of the easiest texts to read in the entire Greek New Testament. The only Greek texts easier to read than the Gospel of John are the First Epistle of John and the Second Epistle of John.
Because the vocabulary and style of the first two Epistles of John are the simplest in biblical Greek, it affords the beginning student an introductory level to Greek reading and diagramming. However, although Third John is the shortest letter in the Greek New Testament with only two hundred and nineteen words, twenty-three words are not found in the Gospel of John or First John, thus making this epistle the most difficult to read of the three.
There are a number of syntactical irregularities in Revelation, as there are in John's other writings. He seemingly at times deliberately defies grammatical rules, and yet, his letter still stands in its own field unsurpassed. The grammatical irregularities do not appear to be due to the writer's ignorance, but intentional and perhaps in order to emphasize theological subtleties. Furthermore, he deliberately modeled his language on the classical Hebrew. This conclusion is based on examining the four hundred plus quotations, and almost without exception, they are from the original Hebrew and Aramaic of the Scriptures.
The syntax of Revelation is relatively simple like that of the Gospel of John. However, there is a moderate amount of special vocabulary required to read it. The letter is the third easiest scriptural work to read in the Greek New Testament vocabulary wise, following the Gospel of John and First John.
