Special Notes

1.  Chī is the twenty-second letter in the Greek alphabet.

2.  Chī is a palatal aspirate consonant. Its phoneme is formed in the throat by the closure of the tongue against the soft palate while allowing air to pass. Its phoneme sounds like the "ch" as in "chemist."

3.  Chī's phoneme may be easily confused with kappa unless it is remembered that the breath is not entirely cut off while pronouncing chī's phoneme.

4.  Chī's lower case letter is written like its capital letter except the capital letter's stem sits on the base line whereas the body of the lower case letter rests on the base line.

5.  Chī is always transliterated into English with two consonants, "Ch" or "ch."
